A Garden Shed Standing The Test Of Time

Have you ever seen a 40-year-old Tuff Shed still standing? We have.

The Whittier Garden shed was built in 1987 – that’s an old building! Considering Tuff Shed was founded in 1981, this shed is nearly as old as the company itself. So, of course we wanted to check it out.

The Tuff Shed team jumped at the opportunity to visit and refurb this shed sitting in one of the oldest gardens in the Denver Urban Gardens network.

Even though the shed was still in great shape, it needed a little love. That’s where we came in.

Whittier Garden Shed Refresh by Tuff Shed Team

With tools and a brand-new door in tow, the team got to work. After a long day scraping paint, tearing shingles, and removing trim, the shed was a blank canvas ready for its face-lift. A fresh coat of paint, dimensional shingles, new trim, and a state-of-the-art-door later, the 40-year-old shed was unrecognizable.

“Everyone pitched in, everyone was working…having a great time” said Eloise Czajkowski Co-Lead Gardener. “It came together so well, it was a lot of fun.”

The Whittier Garden is home to 49 plots, with 80 gardeners. It has been an essential part of the neighborhood since its beginnings as a farm plot 47 years ago. Not only is this garden a place to grow plants and food, but it serves as a place to grow community, too. The garden is a meeting place for neighbors, with the gardeners and their families often gathering together for projects, potlucks, and more.

As a full-time garden for eight months out of the year, a quality shed isn’t just a want, but a need. The Tuff Shed team built custom bins and shelving to make storing a variety of garden supplies easy and keeping everything organized a breeze.

“We are beyond excited,” said Eloise. “The gardeners are going to assume we got a new shed.”

Tuff Shed was honored to refresh this 40-year-old building. Now it’ll serve the Whittier Garden for years to come (maybe even another 40).
